September 2 - 8: The new Cornucopia Lodge is looking for a few hands at the end of this summer for the Red Mountain Roundup, and we could use your help partner.
During the summer, cattle scatter into the Wallowa Mountains of Eagle Cap Wilderness to graze and get out of the valley heat, but once their summer vacation is over, we need to ride into the mountains to bring the beef down for the winter. That's where we need you to pitch in.
You arrive on Sunday and get settled into your Cornucopia Cabin and then bright and early Monday morning you meet your wrangler, and then get matched up with one of our fine horses. After a hearty ranch hand Western breakfast on Monday and Tuesday, we ride into the mountains and gather up cattle for the drive down the mountain to the corrals at Cornucopia Lodge.
On Wednesday you get a day off to rest, and you can fish or hike or ride along from the lodge up to the beautiful Pine Lakes, twin tarns high in the Wallowas with a view that will make you pause. Be sure to bring your camera or fishing gear or both.
Thursday and Friday you go back to work in the mountains looking for strays, and then, on Saturday, after you've got the whole dang herd back down in the corral, you help load cattle onto trucks for their trip to the valley floor where they spend the winter.
On Saturday night like all good cowpokes, you’ll gather round with the wranglers for a Western BBQ and to swap stories around the campfire about the Red Mountain Roundup.
