April 2020 Newsletter "Cornucopia - Over a Century of Social Distancing"

Nearly 150 years ago, the first settlers, miners & explorers started arriving here in northeastern Oregon, and specifically here in Pine Valley and Cornucopia.  While gold, excellent ranching opportunities and the possibility of a new start all were some of the core reasons for their immigration west, so too was the desire for "elbow room" which was getting increasingly rare in the east.  "Social Distancing" was not yet coined as a term, but those early settlers would certainly have understood it - and agreed with it's value even if that "value" has a slightly different connotation today.

In today's crazy world, we are extremely fortunate to live in a such a rural - even isolated - location as Cornucopia.  Our guests continue to love visiting, in great part, for that feeling of space and distance from the crowds.  And, going forward into this very uncertain year of 2020, we want you to know that we DO intend  to stay open through the summer!  We have ALWAYS put our guests safety, in every way, above any and all other goals and wishes here at Cornucopia and in all of our activities.  Which is why we have cancelled our kid's horse camps as we felt that our children's safety MUST take precedence over fun and our own personal wishes and that having them traveling and staying in camp without their parents was not in their best interest in the current conditions.
BUT, unless we are directed otherwise, we WILL continue to offer lodging, pack trips and day rides, with a few modifications.  The restaurant will open when the state of Oregon relaxes it's current temporary closure order.

Do please note the following changes, additions and information pertaining to these activities:
*  We ARE still open for lodging!!  (For info on meals during your stay, see next item)
* For those who choose to rent a cabin, we will offer meal delivery service to the cabins upon request, until the temporary closure order is lifted.
* We, as always, are practicing ALL safety measures both in the lodge & kitchen, as well as with cabin cleaning and will continue to do so as we move into outdoor activities such as pack trips.
(If you would like specific info on our safety practices, please feel free to call or email us).
* Additional pack trips and horse-based activities are being planned.  Please watch our website, Facebook and future newsletters for that info.
* Those families who have attended WHC in the past, or were booked for this summer, will be receiving additional info outlining incentives and special, scheduled trips designed specifically for you and your campers.

Cornucopia, the Eagle Cap Wilderness and the Wallowa Mountains in general are stunningly beautiful.  And, we are a hidden gem within the state that sees few crowds and even less noise.  Here at Cornucopia Lodge & Pack Station, you can enjoy private and comfortable cabins, excellent meals, LOTS of area for hiking, horse-back riding, mountain-biking, fishing and more.  AND, our partners are ALSO still offering guided hiking and jet boat tours.  (Check out our Packages for more info)
Remember that you can check out our LIVE webcam, which uploads new pictures every five minutes!  (Click HERE for the link)

We want to assure all of our guests (past and future) that we ARE aware of the serious nature of this pandemic and are taking all recommended precautions.  But, that we DO intend to operate this summer unless additional restrictions are put in place that will prevent us from doing so.  AND.. in the meantime, we encourage you to follow and comply with the "Stay at Home" order until that travel ban is lifted.  Again, your safety is paramount and we do not want ANYONE risking infection - even for such an adventure as Cornucopia may provide.

Stay safe Friends!!  We are deep into our Spring Cleaning - which has a whole new level added this year - and are looking forward to seeing all of your happy and healthy faces once the risk has passed.
